A
Scary Night
By Jaiden
How
did we get Halloween? Halloween is a very old holiday. It
began hundreds of years ago. It started in Europe. Some people
called the Celts believed that the dead spirits rose up on the
night of October 31. These ghosts caused trouble so people
dressed up in scary costumes and made a lot of noise to scare
the ghost away. Long ago, early Christians celebrated All
Hallow’s Day on November1. The night of October 31st
was called All Hallow’s Eve or Halloween. So, today our
Halloween customs are a mix of old customs. Kids dress up in
costumes and play tricks. They get treats like candy and
special food just like in the old days. Happy Halloween!
What do

Why

Day
of the Dead
by Ricky Rivas
Day of the Dead is a holiday when people
remember their family and friends that have died. The people of
Mexico celebrate on November 2. Families have picnics at the
graveyard. Also, families give up their beds for the night so
their dead relatives will be more comfortable. |
Spiders
By Danney
Halloween is coming! There are many scary things out there!
Are you afraid of spiders? Well, let me tell you about
spiders. Did you know that there are 30 thousand different
kinds of spiders? Spiders come in different colors and sizes.
Spiders were here before the dinosaurs lived. Did you think
they are insects? Well, they are not insects. They are
arachnids. Some spiders lay a few eggs and some lay
thousands. Some spiders spin sticky webs to catch their food
and others hide under rocks and jump out and grab it. Some
spiders are dangerous. Black widow spiders bite people and have
a poison that can kill a person. Some people are afraid of
spiders, but they help us by eating harmful insects.

Zen
Garden
By
Autumn
Did you
know that Encanto School has a Zen garden? The Zen garden is
between the third and second grade classrooms.
Dry
landscape gardens are often called Zen gardens. A Zen garden is
a Japanese rock garden. They are peaceful looking. Lots of
people work hard to keep the Zen garden looking nice. They use
rakes to make designs. When I look at it, I feel like I’m in
China.
Here are
directions for making a Zen garden:
1.
Get the
leaves out of the gravel and throw them away in the garbage.
2.
Sweep
the rocks into the garden.
3.
Do the
designs with a rake in the garden.
Please
stay out of the Zen garden so that everyone can enjoy it and
have a good day!

Charlotte’s Web field
trip
By Caitlyn
When
I first got the field trip paper I was so excited! I asked my
dad if I could come see the play and he said yes, then I asked
if he could come and he said yes.
At
the play
We got off the
buses and noticed there was a very, very long line. We all
thought they were going to use a real pig but they did not, they
just used a man in a suite. The play was beautiful! I started
crying when Charlotte died, it was so sad. The two characters I
thought were funny were Templeton and Wilbur.
Back
at school
We had lunch
and talked about the play. I talked about my favorite part of
the play. My favorite part was when Charlotte took care of
Wilbur so he would not get killed.
I think
everybody should watch the play because it has many important
themes such as love, sharing and friendship. Maybe you can read
the book or watch the movie as well. |
