Gifted Program
Longview Elementary School
Differentiated Instruction occurs within the regular classroom. This includes inquiry learning, tutor and enrichment groups and an Individualized Goal Plan for each identified student. Instruction is based on assessments of what students know and can do.
There is at least one designated Cluster Classroom at each grade level with identified gifted students. These classes contain at least five gifted students, when possible. The teacher of this class is supported by the Gifted Lead Teacher to incorporate various gifted education strategies.
How is a student identified as gifted?
A parent, teacher or child may nominate for gifted testing. The state and district evaluate students for giftedness in three areas; verbal, non-verbal and quantitative. For more information on gifted nominations or testing, contact the School Psychologist.
