Osborn Schools Offer After School Programs
for Students through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers
5-Year Grant
The programs focus on enrichment courses for
students designed to improve their academic performance and provide
extended learning opportunities to them, their parents and family
members. The support of an established and involved staff will
ensure the integration of standards-based curriculum into the
after-school and summer components.
The “Center of Learning Improvement for Community and Kids” (CLICK)
programs will provide services that compliment and support the
school day activities while filling the academic learning gaps
children face. These programs will have a whole child approach that
takes into consideration all aspects of student success including
physical safety, emotional well-being, and academic opportunities
These classes are data driven, designed with research-based
strategies and provide specific interventions to address indicated
needs. Math classes support achievement by focusing on targeted
performance objectives, offering hands-on experiences and teaching
mathematics in “real world” context.
We envision our campuses providing challenge, the
acquisition of knowledge and recognition to our students and their
families in a safe environment, on a year-round basis—community
supporting students to develop independence and passion for
learning.

The 21st Century Grant provides academic and enrichment
after school activities for students, at Solano and across
the Osborn District. Students in Carrie Moore’s TRIP
(Targeted Reading Intervention Program) class receive an
extra-curricular boost– distinctly different from school-day
instruction.
After
School Dominoes, a class designed and taught by fifth grade
teacher Moses Gilliard, is open to 5th graders three days a
week. The class is not just about fun and games: Academic
elements of this class focus on probability, number sense,
addition (quick math facts), multiples of 5, and new
vocabulary for the students to possess and utilize. The
class is funded through the 21st Century After School Grant
for the academic enrichment of students beyond the school
day. |
