School renovations have begun in earnest as a result of the
passage of the November 2006 bond issue
Several
projects have been successfully completed: new roof at Encanto; new
playgrounds at Solano and upgraded intercom and time-clock systems
at all six schools.
Following
Spring break, room renovations involving cabinetry upgrades, carpet
replacement and painting will begin in the Kindergarten wing at
Encanto and in the fourth-grade wing at Longview. Students in these
classrooms will be moved to other locations on campus. It is
anticipated that the remaining classrooms will be completed over the
summer break. This summer, additional restrooms will be completed
in the Kindergarten wing at Montecito and work will begin on a new
Multi-Purpose room that is to be completed in early 2009.
Beginning
in June, massive renovations including new cabinets, lighting,
heating and cooling upgrades, and new carpet will begin at Solano
School. Several portable classrooms will also be replaced with
permanent structures. It is anticipated that this work will be
completed by January 2009 at which time the process will be repeated
on the Clarendon campus with completion planned for summer 2009.
Work on carpet and cabinetry upgrades will begin at the Middle
School in September and is targeted for completion in summer 2009.
In all
cases, we plan to move students into existing space on campus or, if
necessary, elsewhere in the district to maximize dollars used for
permanent improvements. Our goal is to maintain our achievement
focus by keeping moves and classroom disruptions to a minimum.
While there will be obvious discomfort during construction, we are
very excited about this opportunity to further improve the learning
environment for Osborn students.
