  Osborn Launches Arizona's First

Parent Child Home Program

Osborn is implementing a multi-faceted Early Literacy Program for young children aged 18 months to 5 years old through receipt of a First Things First grant. The program involves hosting workshops for children and their parents centered on literacy and language; working with ASU to create book bags for families to check-out; and providing opportunities for families to build their own home libraries so that they have books to read daily. Kim Westfall has been hired as Coordinator for the Osborn Early Literacy grant from First Things First. She is returning to Osborn after having taken time off to raise her own children and completing her Early Childhood endorsement.  She has trained with the Parent-Child Home Project in New York and launched Arizona’s first site in 2009.  It has taken Osborn ten years to launch this incredible project! There are many things families can do to promote literacy and create a rich language environment for their young children. Research has shown that children who read well by third grade have much higher rates of high school graduation. For more information, please contact Kim Westfall at 602-707-2000.
