Three Osborn Schools Re-Applying for 21st Century Grant
You may not know what the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant is, but you have almost certainly heard about one of Osborn's programs funded by it! Almost every student that participates in an after-school program is afforded that opportunity by 21st CCLC Grant funding.
Five of Osborn’s schools host 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) before and/or after school hours, and offer a range of opportunities to students that include academic support and enrichment opportunities that connect to the Arizona State Standards. Each school offers a diverse array of programming that includes support for reading, writing and/or math, and enrichment clubs such as visual arts, performing arts, outdoor education, sports, leadership development, mindfulness, culinary arts, STEM-based learning, gardening, and many more student-interest based opportunities.
The out-of-school-time 21st CCLC program must complement the regular, academic school day. After-school programs must be implemented according to the original, awarded grant proposal. After-school program staff work in close collaboration with the regular school-day staff and community partners. Partnerships and collaborations are required to provide services outlined in the grant and ensure long-term commitments of resources for sustainability. Program activities are required to be based on scientifically based practices that provide evidence that the program activity will help students meet achievement standards. All academic enrichment activities are to be aligned to Arizona State Standards, using cross-curricular connections to meet multiple performance objectives. Services to the family members of participating students may include family literacy activities, parent/guardian-child programming, and other educational activities in support of students’ academic success.
A school that earns this grant is provided funds for five consecutive years and is able to re-apply at the end of their five-year cycle. This is the current case for three Osborn schools:
Clarendon Elementary School
Longview Elementary School
Osborn Middle School
